Once again this year Agrico organized its annual International Varieties and Seedling Show on November 7 and 8. During these two days we welcomed over 1,300 visitors from 50 countries. We look back on two inspiring days. During the show statues were awarded to the breeders of the three new varieties on the National Variety List, visitors could learn all about the (Next Generation) varieties and there was a virtual experience room with interactive games and a VR game. Watch the aftermovie below!
The theme: Next Generation
Next Generation refers to a range of potato varieties that are specifically bred to be more resistant to Phytophthora infestans, the pathogen that causes late blight. These varieties contribute to sustainable cultivation, because they offer a better protection against this main potato disease (Phytophthora infestans), with fewer crop protection agents having to be used. The added value of these sustainable varieties is becoming increasingly evident. Our Next Generation varieties are the path to sustainable use of natural resources for our future generations.
New varieties
This year three new Agrico-varieties joined the Dutch Variety List: Sidney, Leonore and Janick. During the Variety and Seedling Show, Peter Oldenkamp, director of Agrico Research, traditionally presented a bronze statue to the breeders of these new varieties. The Janick variety was bred by Henrik Pedersen of the Danish AKV Langholt and is marketed worldwide under the Agrico brand Semagri. The other two new varieties, Leonore and Sidney, were both bred by Agrico Research.
